Unconsummated Marriage v/s Infertility

When a couple doesn’t have any child, people jump to conclusion that either male partner or female partner or both are infertile. Such a presumption is completely misplaced. Many a time, couples are childless despite both partners being fertile and capable of having a child. What people don’t realize is childlessness can be a product of unconsummated marriage too.

Unconsummated marriage means that couples have never had intercourse in their married life. Sometimes, couples are too nervous to talk about sex life even with their spouse. Some couples do not engage in sex in a proper manner and that prevents female partner from getting pregnant. At times, tensions and bitterness in marriage keep partners away from indulging in sex. There can be many other reasons behind unconsummated marriage.

Now, when couples approach IVF Doctors in Delhi, even most of them (Doctors) don’t factor in the possibility of unconsummated marriage initially. They prescribe a series tests to determine the exact nature and causes of the problem. And at times, much time and energy elapse in a wild goose chase. Ideally, IVF Doctors must begin with basic counselling session and try to understand the metal & psychological state of couples. They (Doctors) must make couples comfortable and encourage them to share their apprehensions and concerns.

Sometimes, all couples need is bit of a pep talk to boost their morale and eradicate fear or tips & techniques about how to indulge in sex properly. IVF Clinics in Delhi must understand and encourage their doctors to hold counselling sessions before prescribing tests and starting treatment.
